At Raka Wines, we strive to reduce our environmental impact by making thoughtful, sustainable choices throughout our winemaking journey.
Beyond moving our farm almost entirely to solar power, we are proud members of the Integrated Production of Wine (IPW) program. One of the ways we contribute to sustainability is through the efficient management of waste and byproducts in the winery.
Our mixed farming approach (combining vineyards with grain, sheep, and cattle) allows us to create a natural cycle that benefits the land and our animals.
During harvest, once the grapes arrive at the cellar, the bunches are destemmed before winemaking begins. Instead of discarding the stems, we repurpose them as feed for our Hereford and Black Angus cattle. The cattle also enjoy the grape skins left after pressing and fermentation – a nutritious treat they absolutely love. In fact, when the cattle hear the tractor approaching, they come running with excitement, knowing their vineyard feast is on the way.
We have included a few photos below to show just how much the cows enjoy their vineyard treats!
If you would like to enjoy our wines as much as the cows enjoy their grape skins, we have a special offer: Use promotional code “COW” to receive a 7,5% discount.
