Good Fellows and Five Maidens

If you look at the world around you, watch the late-night news or read the morning paper, you may think about bad guys rather than good fellows, and virtuous maidens are the last thing to come to mind. It is far removed from the everyday reality of crime, corruption, fraud, gangsters and villains.

In the wonderful world of wine, however, everything is possible. If you happen to be in the vicinity of Illovo you may find not one, but Five Maidens, and you will find them at Norman Goodfellows.

Raka released their Five Maidens Bordeaux style blend earlier this year and introduced it to the Gauteng public at the Juliet Cullinan Wine Show during June.

The wine is of 2011 vintage and was produced to commemorate Raka's first decade in the wine industry. A limited production of only 4000 bottles to mark this milestone were made. It is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, 8% Malbec and 7% Petit Verdot, and was matured for 2 years in 100% new French oak barrels. Raka Five Maidens is available from the tasting room at Raka on the R326 near Stanford. For the convenience of wine lovers in Johannesburg it is now also available from Norman Goodfellows, Illovo.
