When Piet Dreyer started his wine making venture by planting the first grapes on his farm in the Akkedisberg near Stanford in 1999, he was adamant to make one of the best "Bordeaux style blends" in South Africa.

He planted Cabernet Sauvignon, the "backbone" of the Quinary and Merlot, and followed it up with smaller plantings of Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. Slowly the Quinary started taking shape and the blend won various accolades on different wine shows and became more and more popular.

Last year both Raka Quinary 2009 and 2010 were selected for the Top 100 SA Wines. Now the Raka Quinary 2011 repeated the feat and received its certificate as one of South Africas Top 100 wines at a ceremony in Cape Town last week.

"Three consecutive selections under the Top 100 wines in SA shows consistancy and I think I can now safely say that the Quinary is one of the top Bordeaux blends in South Africa, taking into account the many accolades the wine has won over the past 10 years," says Piet, who is never modest in the praise of his wine or children. He is very proud that these wines were made by his son Josef from vineyards tended by younger son and namesake, Pieter.

The Biography Shiraz 2011 was also selected as a Top 100 wine.
