Michelangelo Awards a great evening at Cape Sun

published on: Monday, 07 October 2019

I have not attended the Michelangelo Awards dinner for many years, so I was super impressed by the organisation, food and wine. Considering that there are about 450 people who attend the event in the massive ballroom, it is no mean feat to present each diner with a tasty and delicious plate of food in good time. Hats off to the Tsogo Sun team at the Cape Sun.

The Michelangelo International Wine and Spirits Awards program is as old as wine.co.za in fact - celebrating 23 years this year and clearly with over 2000 entries, it is a massive job to judge all the wines and spirits entered.

Boplaas walked off with the coveted Trophy for Best Overall Producer and Groot Constantia were super excited about their Chardonnay 2018 which was awarded the highest scored wine at the competition.

It was lovely to see Danie Steytler (Snr) there with his wife Yngvild, who walked off with a Trophy for the Bidvest Pinotage Trophy with their Kaapzicht Steytler Pinotage 2017.  They will have to build a wall of honour soon at the farm, because they seem to be walking off with trophies and medals at every competition!

We are very proud of our clients doing so well - with great applause for Raka, Neethlingshof, Boplaas and Elgin Vintners who walked off with Trophies at the competition.

From the 2000+ entries -  the judges handed out 25 trophies, 13 Platinum medals and 146 Double Gold medals.

Congrats to all those working so hard to uplift the standard of South African wine!
